I spent the better half of last Saturday working on a presentation that helps you discover your skin tone for a church project. I actually wasn’t expecting much but it turned out to be quite a hit with the boys and girls alike! I realise that it actually is pretty useful and can totally revolutionise your shopping experience – so I decided to share it here too! (:
Click on this link to get it! How to find the perfect colour for you
Okay, I have to clarify that I did not come up with the pictures/colour swatches but I have the links where you can find them in the last slide. Have fun discovering the perfect colour for your skin tone! Let us know if it came in useful for you, how you used it – you can even use the slides but please let us know what and where you are using it for by leaving a comment! (:
I am a Deep Winter, which is typical for Asians (well, the other half of Asians are probably Deep Autumns anyway) according to the links I checked. These are the colours that work the best for me!
But do note that the list of colours are not exhaustive and you should go out and experiment with different shades because every one’s skin tone is unique – the slides just show the BEST possible colours for you (:
So what’s your season? Do you agree with the colours? Let us know!
One of the precious things in life is having a long-term friendship with a good pal, whom I’ve known for 2 decades! Those were the days back in church, when Jazeril and I would hang out to shop (yeap, both of our love for shopping started way way back then), met up for informal guitar lessons with a mutual friend, attended Sunday School together, and cos we used to live super near each other before we both got hitched, we would hop over to each other’s place very often.
Time has indeed flown by and she’s now a proud mother of 2 lovely children. We hardly get to meet up these days cos time really isn’t on our side, but thanks to technology, we have kept in touch all these years via facebook, whatsapping and the occasional meet-ups. And when I heard that she’s gonna be in the UK for the next 10 months due to her husband’s post graduate education for his vocation, I knew we HAVE to meet, no matter what.
And guess what. She not only surprised me by bringing along her very entertaining 6-year-old son, treated me to desserts and even gave me a Cath Kidston bag! And in the prettiest prints of florals, which the both of us have always been madly in love with since our teenage days! I’m so gonna bring this tote bag out on a picnic or something, when Mr Sunshine is in a good mood. Let me know if you have ideas on what outfits to match it. I’d love to hear from you and have an exchange of fashion tips!
Such a keeper is this dear friend of mine, don’t you think so? 🙂

We at Lavender Lane love all things vintage and old-school so when I discovered this website about vintage beauty tips, I was admittedly intrigued!
When I think of vintage beauty, old Hollywood glamour girls like Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe immediately come to mind. They totally define the word “classic beauties” for me.
So what were some of the things that they did to keep their hair coiffed and lustrous and their cheeks rosy? They certainly didn’t have things like curling irons or hot rollers that we do today, and you know as well as I do that the love for vintage is coming back!
Look at Leighton Meester from Gossip Girls channelling old Hollywood glamour with her tousled updo and cherry red lips!
Taylor Swift with the finger waves faux bob popular in the 1920’s.
Madonna with the 1940’s victory rolls look!
Okay, before I get carried away, here’s the website I have been talking about!
I have heard of the Rag-A-Curl and a friend of mine told me that it actually works! I’m personally very interested in the Rogue a la Rose – an excuse to coerce my hubby into buying me flowers 😀 😀 😀
Have you heard of or tried any of the tricks they raised? Which of them are you game to try out? I thought the Vaseline trick for puffy eyes might be worth a try too!
Who knows, we may even try some of the stuff out on our models for the next photoshoot, hehe!
Let me end off with a beautiful quote from Audrey Hepburn:
For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.
We had our recent photoshoot for the upcoming collection and had the time of our lives. The weather was good, it wasn’t a killer sort of heat which meant that we didn’t need to squint our eyes or be in shades that much. Thank You for answering our prayer!! Well, other than the fact that I fell sick the very next day and so did Tiffany, who was already down the night before and yes, she still braced herself for this photoshoot. Such admirable dedication!
Truth be told, Adeline and I are cousins. Can you tell? It has never occurred to us that we actually do look alike until about 3 years ago when our social paths took an overlap, we started to have common friends and many have affirmed this fact. The one similarity which I have discovered over time are our likes. For the record, we both love to sing (though she sings way MORE than me haha), we have single eyelids, we both LOVE our jeggings to bits (launched in Collection 18 and we blogged about it too), we love STEAMBOAT and CHILLI and oh yes, we both tend to have temporary lapses in memory, which we both just found out recently. Some things just run in the family.
And because our theme is that of a school theme this time round, it required us to tap on the foregone territory locked somewhere at the back of our memories. Those carefree days, where the bulk of your stress came mainly from getting those aces and when the next holiday would come. Really.
After scrolling through and selecting some of the shots JUST for this blog post (You are our VIP!), I know it was all well worth the effort.
Enough said. Follow through the shots and wave your hands if you’re just as elated about the upcoming launch!
My limp fine hair will never make it to the boom boom hairstyles list, hence Tiffany attempted a braid for me while I had a shock at what students are being taught these days at Science classes.
It all started with an innocent smile. At least for me. While she spontaneously burst into a fit of laughter, as you would soon see in the following shots.
It soon caught up on me….
All in all, I am thankful for this cousin bond formed and forged only in recent years and totally look forward to more fun times together. So friends, TREASURE your loved ones and never ever take them for granted 🙂
When the word ‘leggings’ first popped up in my radar, I went ‘what on earth is this??
Is that even a proper English word???
We all witnessed how leggings soon evolved to become one of the staples in the fashion industry. I used to be bewildered when I saw how people dressed leggings up for office wear, well, until I made my very first purchase at a Christmas flea market held in church, where I bought this pair of black leggings from Forever 21, brand new, never worn, from Tiffany (yes, my partner at Lavender Lane!), and yup you got me there. I was hooked ever since.
Thanks to the relatively casual dressing culture at my ex-workplaces, I was given a relative amount of freedom (ahem, self-imposed at times) to enter the office in leggings, with my tunics and heels as companions of course.
So. What first began as a trial progressively became a staple for me before I realize it. Leggings in all colors and prints started raiding my wardrobe. I mean, how can anyone resist something so comfortable and versatile?? Really.
Then came the hybrid of tight jeans and leggings which gives us, jeggings. If you are clueless (especially the guys), just do a quick google and you will get the generic definition that they are basically leggings which are styled to look like tight denim jeans, in better quality and yet still lighter than skinny jeans totally fit for summer.
Simple math here. A combination of ‘jeans + leggings’.
This is what fashion does to you. You be the first to come with it and it becomes the next big thing before you know it. It’s being worn all over the world by celebrities and common folks like me!
And the best part? it’s made of such good quality that it doesn’t show off your VPL 🙂
This is why we, at Lavender Lane, has included this timeless piece in our newly launched Collection 18, available in 3 colors which totally rock! It is made of such good thick stretchy cotton and fits a range of UK6 – 10, comfortably. And check out how well they go with our lightweight Geometrical Batwing Tops, also available in 3 colors!
Don’t forget to like our Facebook Page to be updated of more giveaways and promotions to come which you definitely do not wanna miss out on.
Let the photos do the talking, shall we?
It has been on my mind for a while now, to pierce my ears again – I did it before when I was in JC but I allowed the earholes to close and had to throw all the earrings I accumulated over the years away.
I started looking at pictures of earrings online like these below and I began to imagine how they will look with some of the outfits I wear! And of course I was drawn to florals again, we at Lavender Lane just can’t help it! Florals are so versatile and feminine, with a tinge of understated elegance. With that, I knew I was on the point of no return and had to take the plunge again. I am afraid of needles/sharp objects piercing the body so it’s a bit of a big step for me. I mean, it’s like an injection! Haha
Buuuut, I did it! I went to B*Dazzled at Isetan Katong – they have other outlets in town, there’s one at Wisma Atria next to Famous Amos. You have to buy one of their piercing earrings which cost $45 and above. I chose this pair that looks like a flower or a star, with a little diamante in the middle. The lady who pierced my ears was very patient and assured me that it wouldn’t hurt when she saw I was a little nervous and afraid! It felt like a little staple clip on both ears and I only felt a burning sensation when she applied some alcohol solution to sanitize the holes. They also gave me a bottle of that solution to take home ($10.70 with gst) to apply twice a day for a month. One thing I like about the place is their after-sales service, which is free for the next 6 weeks! She was very professional about remarking the holes – she didn’t simply follow the earlier piercings I had because they weren’t level.
So tadah! Happy me with my new piercings.
I haven’t been accessorizing much lately, and it will be so exciting to stock up again on pretty quirky earrings again! I may just set aside a little corner in my house to hang my earrings, with a small vase of flowers and perfume – ah, a girl’s indulgence.
Have you piereced your ears? What sort of earrings do you wear and where do you get them from? Please share tips with me! 😀 😀
